Minecraft is a sandbox construction game created by Markus Persson, founder of Mojang AB. He drew his inspiration when creating Minecraft both from his past projects that were not particularly known to the general public, and from popular games like Dungeon Keeper.
The description of the Minecraft gameplay can be formulated in one sentence: the player travels through an almost limitless 3D world, consisting of various blocks that he can destroy and create. The game also features a unique "pixel" graphic style that is instantly memorable, although many find it unattractive at first.
Minecraft is a project not about graphics, but about creativity, imagination and creation, and this is exactly the case when the game is very easy to get used to, but it takes hundreds of hours to comprehend all its depth.
In 2014, Mojang and the rights to Minecraft were acquired by the American company Microsoft.
Minecraft provides the player with a three-dimensional, procedurally generated world made entirely of cubic blocks, and gives the player the opportunity to freely rebuild it, creating complex structures from the blocks - this feature of the game makes Minecraft similar to the LEGO constructor.
The game does not set any clear goals for the player, but offers him many opportunities and activities: for example, the player can explore the world, create a variety of structures and objects, and fight various opponents.
Minecraft is one of the best-selling computer games in history, second only to Tetris: as of October 2018, its cumulative sales across all platforms exceeded 154 million copies, and the number of active players who played the game at least once a month exceeded 91 million. The game has won numerous awards, including the Spike Video Game Awards and the Golden Joystick Award.
