All events in Need for Speed: Most Wanted take place in the fall, but only during the day and not at night. The gameplay is focused on street racing. The main story mode of the game is “Career”. As in the previous part of the series, Need for Speed: Underground 2, the player is given freedom of movement around the city. During free driving, the player can find racing icons; The appearance of these pictograms depends on the type of competition.

Unlike Underground 2, in Most Wanted the player does not have to drive to the race location in the city, but can instead choose to race in a garage. In addition to racing, throughout the city you can find the player's garages (English Safehouses), car markets and spare parts stores, which open throughout the game. You can also find radars in the city. If you drive past them at the required speed, the player will receive an additional rating.
